The Clinic

North Harbour Veterinary Clinic is staffed by three very experienced veterinarians. Bruce Chard works full time while Geoff Hammond and Andrea Palmer share a full time position.

The strength of the practice is the stability of staff with both nurses and veterinarians committed to the clinic. Geoff has been with the practice for over 20 years while Andrea has been working here for nine years. Our nursing staff show a similar commitment. Barbara Turnbull started here 18 years ago while Kylie Pullin joined our team in 2008. Jade Stanaway is our newest staff member, having joined us in August 2011.

Comfortis
Comfortis® Oral Flea Treatment for Dogs

At last there's a product to kill fleas which your dog doesn't have to wear!

Comfortis® is an innovative flea control product available now as a pleasant-tasting chewable tablet. It is great for dogs and puppies 2.3kg and over who are at least 14 weeks old.

Benefits of Comfortis® include:
• No oily patch on the coat after treatment.
• Efficacy not affected by swimming or shampooing.
• Easy to give monthly treatment.

Comfortis® has been demonstrated to rapidly kill fleas within half an hour of administration, killing 100% of fleas within four hours. Its mode of action selectively targets the insect nervous system, giving Comfortis® its high safety profile.

Comfortis
® is new to New Zealand but has already reached the number two selling position in the USA, with thousands of happy customers and pets. Now you can buy Comfortis® from your North Shore vet, North Harbour Veterinary Clinic.
Boarding Facilities

Boarding Facilities Available

Did you know we have a boarding cattery downstairs?

We can cater for up to five cats in individual quarters, with two cages big enough to board two cats if your cats prefer to snuggle up together.  We do not house cats from different households together.

As cats spend 13-18 hours each day asleep they are generally quite happy to be confined to quarters, but because there is no outdoor access our facilities are best suited to shorter-term stays.

While many cats who board with us have no medical problems, we are particularly suited to look after cats who require medicating.  Our regulars include diabetics, hyperthyroid cats and epileptics.

If you want your cat in a secure environment with individual monitoring of appetite and health documented at least twice daily then this is the place for you.

Cat Boarding Fees    - No Medication                  $14.50/day
                                    - Medication Required        $18.00/day

We sometimes board dogs requiring medication, such as diabetics. Contact us to discuss whether your dog is suitable for this service.

Your North Shore Vet
North Harbour Veterinary Clinic, for all your pet care on the North Shore.
Our History on the North Shore
HistoryCalendarNorth Harbour Veterinary Clinic was developed from a clinic in Browns Bay. In 1978 Bruce Chard worked for Bob Lane as a relieving veterinarian, having returned from Canada where he had been working for 2 years.

At this time the Browns Bay clinic operated out of a converted shop located on the beach front in Anzac Road, opposite the Bays Club building. Bob Lane decided to sell part of the practice and relocate himself to East Coast Road, Northcross, where the present day East Coast Bays Veterinary practice is.

Bruce bought the Browns Bay practice and continued to operate there until 1988. When the council bought up all the beach-front properties the clinic had to shift, and a decision was made to relocate the practice to the present North Shore location. The existing house on the property was moved off and an architectually designed clinic and hospital was developed.

North Harbour Veterinary Clinic opened at 398 East Coast Road at the beginning of 1988 and has continued up until the present time.
