Our Committment to Excellence

CommitmentAll staff are encouraged to continue with education. We are all aware of the huge increase in knowledge that occurs each year.

Veterinarians attend local branch meetings for talks by veterinary specialists and Bruce attends either the New Zealand veterinary conference or an overseas conference each year.  Andrea recently attended a two-day veterinary course on bird, reptile and small mammal medicine.

Our nursing staff receive educational material from industry representatives in the clinic and also get to attend evening courses sponsored by veterinary product companies.

The use of the internet is to the fore with Andrea having completed several on-line medicine courses and Kylie having completed a nutritional advocate course.

Bruce graduated from Massey University in 1971, but first came to the North Shore in 1978 when he bought the Browns Bay practice off Bob Lane. The move to the present site occurred in 1988. Bruce works full time in the practice, coordinating time off with Geoff and Andrea. When not working Bruce enjoys cycling to maintain fitness and hiking some of New Zealand’s great walks. His Airedale Terrier "Tasman" and Pekingese "Oscar" can sometimes be seen at the clinic. His Burmese cat "Tia" also shares his home in Greenhithe.

After many years as a laboratory technician for the blood transfusion service, Barbara decided to change careers and follow her lifetime interest in animal nursing. She completed her Vet Nursing Certificate at Unitech in 1997. Barbara and her husband Paul have two sons, a black lab named "Kaeo" and frequently dog-sit their son’s dog "Biggles", a pekingese/maltese cross.

Geoff graduated form Massey University many summers ago and has been part of the North Harbour team for over 20 years. His home is inundated with animals of all shapes and sizes, but his special friend is “Mickey” his Miniature Fox Terrier. He also finds time to pursue his other passion, namely building and now sailing his yacht “Pacific Rose”, fishing, practising his piano accordion and giving support to his elderly father.

Andrea completed her Veterinary Science Degree (Distinction) in 1994 and has been working here part-time since 2002. With three children, the two or three days per week at the clinic creates a good balance between work and family life. Andrea has a gorgeous fluffy cat called Thomas and a sleek black cat named Midnight.

Kylie joined North Harbour Vets in July 2008, She graduated from Vet Nursing in 2006 at Otago Polytechnic.  She has a passion for all animals, and really enjoys learning and extending her knowledge further. Kylie lives in Orewa with her dog Kougar a Rottweiler x Hunterway and her two cats Fez and Nismo. She also has a collection of tropical fish.

Jade started with us in August 2011. She attended Unitec in 2009 for a Certificate in Animal Clinical Care. Jade has three cats; Tigger,Turbo and Silvia(Fatty) but unfortunately they live at her mum's, as Jade moved to Silverdale in November 2010 to live the rural lifestyle. She flats with four other people on a 26 acre farm. In their household they have three dogs, one cat, twelve sheep, three chickens and nine horses. Four of the horses belong to the SPCA ,as we help foster their large animals.

Jade looks forward to getting to know you all soon.
